Africa’s bartending scene continues to gain global recognition as three national champions prepare to represent the continent at the 2026 Hennessy My Way global finals in Paris. Representing three of the continent’s leading hospitality markets are Roxanne Read from South Africa, Happiness Cletus (Nigeria), and Brian Ohadha (Kenya).
Each earned their spot after winning the national stage of the competition, which challenges mixologists to create personal, innovative interpretations of Hennessy cocktails while putting a spotlight on technical ability and local storytelling. African mixologists are increasingly stepping away from conventional international trends to draw inspiration from their own backyards.
By incorporating indigenous botanicals, native teas, regional spices and heritage fermentation techniques. Bartenders across the continent are crafting drinks with a distinct sense of place. South Africa harnessing the country’s rich botanical and floral diversity. Nigeria drawing on bold, layered and vibrant flavour profiles. While in France, the trio will explore Hennesy’s historic cellars, deepen their spirit knowledge and connect with figures from global drinks industry before presenting their signature creations to an international judging panel. Beyond their individual ambitions, Roxanne, Happiness and Brian carry the flag for an African cocktail movement that is increasingly confident in its own voice, ingredients and creative identity.
